Why Ethiopia?

I have heard this story many times but it changed all meaning when we started our adoption journey.

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he smiled and said, "It made a difference for that one."

If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one.
~Mother Teresa~

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much.
~Mother Teresa~

God calls us all for his purpose and he never gives us more than we can handle.
James 1:27
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

What if it were your child? What if your child had nothing and no one? What if your child had nowhere to sleep at night...no food to eat...no one to give them a hug or protect them from the dark? What if your child had to drink water from a muddy hole? What if your child had to suffer through illness because there was no medicine, no doctor? No child should have to live that way...not yours, not ours, not the children of Ethiopia...no child.

God led us to Ethiopia two years ago through ministry at our Church. Since then He has given us such a love for the country and a burden for its people. There are millions of orphans in Ethiopia in need of someone to care for them. It is our hearts desire to follow God's call on our life and make a difference for at least one child in Ethiopia.

You do not have to like the calling on our life, but we do ask for your love and support. Trust in God, because we are and he has not let us down yet.
